Okay...so much to say about this one. First of all where the idea came from. I LOVE Mello! He was by far my favorite person from Death Note. I was writing my boring 10 page paper on the Grimm Brothers and was taking quizzes. I had Mello was one of those stupid "7 minutes" things and noticed something. He looked so funny with his little hood on his head. The fact that it was red (something you don't see in the manga because it is in black and white) sparked the idea. It might have been because of the essay, but the idea grew and became Near as the "big bad wolf."
Now on to the drawing. I have never drawn either character before so I hope that I did them justice. In no way was I really mocking either...even though I am in no way a Near fan. I could never match Obata-san's perfection of the boys, but I tried my best. Okay, Mello had a few errors in the manga with his pants. His belt kind of changed (in the same scene/time frame) so I just went with the basic. I put the shirt and pants together from the outfits that I liked. His clothing is around the time that he first got the scar, in case you were wondering. The guns? Well, what else would Mello bring to Grandma's house? I think he's about to loose the bigger (insert name of gun here) one.
I'm soo sorry about the background! I couldn't do a background justice to save my life!! I really did try though. Maybe someday I will go back and redo everything.
...I hate how the watercolor paper looks when I scan it...
Also, I did not finish the anime. I didn't care much for it. Very boring. I loved the manga! Therefore, I used the manga (vol. 9, 10 and 13) as a reference.
Is that an AK-47 hanging out of his picnic basket?
I love the concept and it is beatifully executed! The colors are amazing and I personally like the background, though you mentioned you're not pleased with it.
Yes! Thank you! I had no idea what kind of gun that was. It was just in the manga right before Mello blew up the building. I'm glad that you like it. I just need more practice with backgrounds. Thank you for the complement.
